How To To Upload A PDF File/E-Book To Your Hosting Account

by Thomas Lierzer on February 12, 2011

In this post I am going to walk you thru how to upload a PDF File To your Hosting account, this is a vital part  you need to know if you ever want to offer a free report or ebook.  It is a must know and I am going to do my best to keep it a simple as possible, and hopefully after going through my tutorial you will be ready to do it yourself.

1. Sign in to your hosting account, in this tutorial I am going to use Hostgator.

2. Once in your c-panel scroll down to the “Files” section and click on “File Manager”

3.  A File Directory Selection Box will open and select which domain you want to install the pdf file on. If you only have 1 domain you would not have to choose. Make sure you select “Document Root For”

4. After selecting the domain and Document Root click go

5.  Once in your Root Directory you can click on  “New Folder” to create a folder in which you will place your PDF File.

6. Once the new Folder is created, double click the folder to open it.

7.  Once open , click on the “Upload”  Icon  and a window will open. Find your file and upload it.

8. If you made it that far congrats, your file is uploaded. Now you need the link for your blog visitors.  The file path is the link, so make sure you know what it is. It should look like this.

http://www.domain.com/foldername/filename.pdf

Okay, all done.

Congratulations, your PDF file is now being hosted on you Web server and you are ready to give the link to your visitors.
All you need now is a Report or Ebook so get on with it and start writing.

Thomas-
I totally needed this post. This is something I have not done yet and to tell you the truth was a little afraid of doing, but your instructions are soooo simple. The only thing is that I don’t have Hostgator. I have GoDaddy. Do you suppose it will work in a pretty similar fashion? Thanks
Cori

Hi Cori, yes it is very simple. The hosting company really doesn’t matter. Go Daddy works great for that as well. Your C-panel might look a little different but it function the same way.

I have saved this because I will need to use it soon. This is very helpful. Have you considered doing it as a show me video too? As a former school teacher, many, like myself, learn well when shown step by step. Thanks again!

Hi Thomas ~ Very helpful info…I trust that the same info will work regardless of who your main website/domain host is? The graphics you show look exactly like the one’s I have for my main website hosted by Network Solutions. I have wondered how this is done, and so am glad I saw your post…very helpful to me, thanks! :-) Christine

Thomas,
That was great and so useful. I have several ebooks already online but I had a tech guy set it up for me and I never understood where the file was actually located, in case I wanted to change something.
I agree with Teresa. I would love to find out how you created those graphics. I will be doing a presentation on social media for my Rubenfeld Synergy conference (that’s the type of mind-body awareness therapy I use in my work). They all do amazing work but many are afraid of getting involved online so I want to teach them how easy it can be.

How delightful to run across you easy to follow directions. I’m not a tech wizard so I’m always happy to find people who can explain things like this. Your graphics look awesome! Maybe you can do a future post showing how you created such great graphics.
